Route Napoléon by car

"Legendary and heroic, Route Napoléon exemplifies the fantastic journey of the Hundred Days". Starting in Golfe-Juan, it retraces the historic itinerary by the Emperor Napoleon after his return from the Isle of Elba in 1815. The route heads towards Grasse crossing the Alpes-Maritimes département from the South to the Northwest through Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey, Escragnolles and Séranon all the way to Grenoble. This 60 km itinerary on the Riviera reveals contrasting landscapes between the Mediterranean coast and the Alps.
In addition to the natural riches, Route Napoléon offers a fine cultural heritage that contributes to making this historic trail so unique.

Route des Grandes Alpes by car, motorcycle or bicycle

From Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean (Menton), Route des Grandes Alpes offers the most beautiful journey over nearly 700km and 16 mountain passes in the wilderness of the Alps. By car, motorcycle or bike, this legendary route provides a chance to discover, each at their own pace, splendid landscapes, majestic peaks and a fabulous mountain heritage.

The portion of this historic itinerary between the Mercantour National Park and Menton is an invitation to share this alpine identity thanks to striking vistas (Valberg, Col de la Couillole), exceptional valleys (Tinée, Vésubie), picturesque villages (Saint-Martin-Vésubie, Sospel)…

Between the mountains and the sea, you discover riches both natural and cultural and, at each stopover, fine tables and accommodation can satisfy the most demanding visitors. "Relais" Tourist Bureaus (Valberg, La Colmiane, Saint-Martin-Vésubie, Menton, Sospel in the Alpes-Maritimes) can provide all the information necessary for organising your trip.

By train with Train des Merveilles

Train des Merveilles takes visitors from Nice to the villages of the Paillon, Roya and Bévéra Valleys to Tende, the last stopover before Vallée des Merveilles and its rock carvings in the heart of the Mercantour National Park. This itinerary by rail through spectacular tunnels and bridges is an invitation to discover valleys and villages with many assets: cultural (baroque churches, panel paintings by Niçois primitives), athletic (hiking, rock climbing, canyoning) and gastronomic. It should be noted that guided tours are available at every stop. Information: ✆ 00 33 (0)4 93 04 92 05

Mountain biking along Les Chemins du Soleil

Les Chemins du Soleil offer two Nature itineraries across the Pre-Alps: from the Rhone Valley to the Southern Alps and from the Vercors to Provence (Grenoble - Sisteron - Digne-les-Bains - Castellane), finishing in the Alpes-Maritimes département.
A total of 850km of perfectly marked trails to discover the Massif with all its natural and cultural riches
This great, beautiful mountain biking trail, which earned the FFC (Fédération Française de Cyclisme) label usually takes twice 5 to 7 days. But its sporty character should not frighten those who prefer less strenuous hiking since the many forms of accommodation along the way make it possible to take one’s time to discover, in more leisurely fashion, a territory, its inhabitants and its surprising landscapes and heritage.

Hiking on the GR5

One step after the other on one of the world’s greatest trails.
The GR5, also called E2 (European hiking trail) starts on the beaches of the North Sea in the Netherlands to reach the Mediterranean Sea in Nice after 2,500 km. On the way, it crosses Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Its course was selected to privilege mountain ranges: the Ardennes, the plateaux of Lorraine, the Vosges and the Monts d’Alsace, the plateaux and gorges of the Jura, ending in grand style in the fabulous Alps.

In the Alps, the GR 5 coincides with the Grande Traversée des Alpes (Great Crossing of the Alps), with nearly 30,000 metres change in altitude through five French départements: Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Alpes-Maritimes.

Many refuges and gîtes d'étapes (stopover gîtes) punctuate this itinerary leaving it to each individual to create their route according to their wishes and physical condition and enabling them to find the stopover every night with the services most in keeping with their needs... and expectations.

La Via Alpina on foot

Along five international itineraries (from Monaco to Trieste on the Adriatic coast) through eight countries in the Alpine Arc (France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria…), it features 341 stopovers and over 5,000 km of trails for hikers to discover the natural and cultural heritage of the Alps. Perfectly marked with hospitable stopovers offering bed and board, these itineraries are not technically difficult and are accessible to all hikers.
