The highest mountain valley. The northernmost part is home to the main winter resorts in the département: Auron (Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée), Isola 2000 and La Colmiane-Valdeblore. The southern part, more rugged and at a lower altitude, features many picturesque villages and hamlets like Bairols, Roure and Marie which provide wonderful places to visit during excursions to Col de La Bonette-Restefond (the highest pass in Europe), the lakes of Vens and Rabuons...

Auron: Chapelle St-Érige, Romanesque chapel, one of the few with the traditional alpine arrangement with wooden galleries and wooden ceiling
St-Dalmas-Valdeblore: Ste-Croix church
Isola: Cascade de Louch, over 100m high
St-Sauveur-sur-Tinée: Gorges de Valabres after the village
Roure: village clinging to the mountainside over an impressive drop
Sta Anna di Vinadio (Italy): the highest-altitude sanctuary in Europe
Clans: giant three-century-old fir trees in the forests
Col de La Bonette-Restefond: 360° view from the highest-altitude road in Europe (2,800m)
